Automotive Engine & Parts Rebuilding |
| PROBLEM: Many of the replacement automotive engines, transmissions and parts purchased today are remanufactured to original equipment specifications using highly sophisticated rebuilding processes. Parts used in this remanufacturing today include engine blocks and heads, transmission housings, starters, alternators, water pumps, brake shoes, stators, crankshafts and others. Other parts, such as field coils, are salvaged for the reclaiming of the copper windings for resale. Usually the parts to be rebuilt are coated with grease, oil, gaskets, and dirt. The parts must first be cleaned to remove these contaminates before the rebuilding process can begin. In the past the most frequently used cleaning process for many of the parts was to soak them in a solvent to dissolve the grease, etc. No longer is chemical cleaning a viable alternative for either today's high volume rebuilders or the local garage rebuilding an engine per week.
